TOUR: We will start with a city tour around Gáldar. This city had a relevant importance before the arrival of the Spaniards in 1483 as it was one of the largest aboriginal centres of population and the residence of The Guanartemes (Monarchs) and the last king of the Canaries, Tenesor Semidán. There is no better place than this to understand the way of life of the aborigines and the social development that took place after the conquest.
Then we will visit the city of Santa María de Guía to enjoy its historic centre declared in 1982 as National Historical Site, to appreciate its beautiful church built between the S. XVII and S. XIX which preserves many important Lujan Perez´s works of art; La Casa de Los Quintana S. XVI or the birthplace of Nestor Alamo (S. XVII) among other buildings. We may visit some establishments where you can taste the Queso de Guia (cheese) and see the homes of the artisans who make the famous canary knives (handles made of goat horn) and develop a particular way to carve wood.
Later, we will continue to visit to the impressive Cenobio de Valerón. This archaeological site consists of about 300 caves carved in the rock, is the most spectacular and largest pre-Hispanic barn in Gran Canaria.
Finally, we will go back to Galdar to visit the Cueva Pintada Museum and Archaeological Site. The tour includes a walk through the troglodyte ruins, from where you can directly observe the excavated chambers and The Painted Cave. In the museum there are a large number of archaeological materials recovered from the different excavation campaigns.
