First, we’ll start the tour with a visit to the city of Santa María de Guía to enjoy its historic centre declared in 1982 as National Historical Site, to appreciate its beautiful church built between the S. XVII and S. XIX which preserves many important Lujan Perez´s works of art; La Casa de Los Quintana S. XVI or the birthplace of Nestor Alamo (S. XVII) among other buildings. We may visit some establishments where you can taste the Queso de Guia (cheese) and see the homes of the artisans who make the famous canary knives (handles made of goat horn) and develop a particular way to carve wood.
Then we will drive to La Casa del Queso (Interpretation centre/ Chesse House), epicenter of the cheese production in the northwestern region that offers visitors the opportunity to learn more about the history, culture and tradition around this gastronomic jewel, which is the Queso de Flor, the Media Flor and Queso de Guia. We will know about the origins and characteristics of this traditional activity. Here we can also have the opportunity to learn and participate in the process of making cheese, and you can taste other products like handmade cakes and liquors.
Later, we will continue to visit to the impressive Cenobio de Valerón. This archaeological site consists of about 300 caves carved in the rock, is the most spectacular and largest pre-Hispanic barn in Gran Canaria.
Then, return back to Gáldar, where if you wish you can visit The Painted Cave or enjoy a good canarian meal in the center of the city.
At 2:45 and after having lunch, we will set off to the Valley of Agaete, to visit The Maipés Archaeological Park , one of the largest aboriginal necropolis of the island, where archeologists have found more than 600 burial mounds.
We will go up to the Mirador del Valle, where you can have stunning views of this magnificent place and a parallel vision of Las Cumbres de Tamadaba.
Next, we will visit the Finca La Laja and Los Berrazales Winery, to take a guided tour through the coffee and tropical fruits plantation and the wine cellar. It is the only coffee plantation in Europe and one of the most awarded wineries in the Canaries.
Our last stop will be at the village where we will have the opportunity to visit the Chapel of the Conception dating from 1984 and the Agaete fishing port, where people still mantain the traditional ways of fishing and where we can get lost looking at the clear and clean waters, La Playa de Las Nieves and the natural pools.
